Lions are the only permanently social cats, living in groups called prides. A pride consists of several adult females, usually sisters and cousins, and their young offspring. Adult male lions in a group of 2 or 3, usually brothers, take over a pride by conquest and defend it from other males as long as they are able. This male is in his prime, unscarred from battle.
